The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim is an upcoming English and Hindilanguage crime drama film directed by Raghav Murali and produced by Z. Hossain.[1] The film stars Monica Dogra, Rahsaan Islam, Kal Parekh, and Sorab Wadia in pivotal roles.[2][3] The film is loosely inspired by true stories of the NYPD, FBI, and CIA's use of Muslim informants.[4]

Casting[edit]

After watching Simanaheen in theaters, Z. Hossain approached Rahsaan Islam to cast the latter in a film they would make together.[5] The result of their collaboration was the script of The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim, which was finalized in February 2014. Kal Parekh and Sana Serrai were next to be cast.[6] Parekh was noticed by the casting team by his work inFOX television's Pan Am and Serrai was noticed after being named one of the ten sexiest Indian models who wooed America by Technology magazine.[7][8] The producers had a desire to work with Monica Dogra ever since the release of her Star World television show The Dewarists and were able to cast her in the lead role of The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim.[9]Dogra feature film debut opposite Aamir Khan in Dhobi Ghat.[10]

Filming[edit]

Shooting for The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim began in June 2014 in New York City.[11] The film will be shot exclusively in the city and various studios and principal photography is expected to last two months.[12]

Piku is an upcoming Indian comedy-drama film directed by Shoojit Sircar.Deepika Padukone portrays the titular protagonist, a Bengali architect living in New Delhi, and Amitabh Bachchan plays her ageing father. The film explores the dynamics of their relationship as they take a road trip to Kolkata.[1] Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta portray supporting roles.Piku is scheduled for release on May 8, 2015.[2]

Casting[edit]

The main cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Irrfan Khan was finalised in mid-2014.[5] In preparation for the role of Piku, Padukone learned Bengali as her character is from Bengal.[6] Initially, there were early reports that Jisshu Sengupta was cast as the romantic lead opposite Deepika Padukone, but it has been confirmed that Sengupta will in fact be seen playing Padukone's best friend in the film.[3][7] Irrfan Khan will play the romantic lead opposite of Deepika Padukone.[8][9] Amitabh Bachchan will essay the role of a Bangali bhadrolok, while Moushumi Chatterjee will essay the role of a family member.[10] Akshay Oberoi will play a cameo role going on a date with Padukone's character.[4]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography for Piku began in August 2014, when shooting of the film's first schedule took off in Kolkata.[11] The first schedule for Piku was also filmed in Delhi and Mumbai and included filming of indoor scenes.[12][13][14] The second schedule of filming started on 30 October 2014 in Kolkata and took place mostly in the north part of the city.[14][15][16] Specifically, shooting for the film took place at the iconic Howrah Bridge in the city's Shyambazar neighbourhood and at Bishop Lefroy Road, the residence ofSatyajit Ray.[16][17][18] During the shooting at Howrah Bridge, Bachchan was seen cycling around the city streets dressed as his character.[19] The Kolkata schedule was completed on 18 November 2014 and shooting has now shifted to Delhi and Patdi Near Surendranagar in Gujarat.[20][21] Shooting in Delhi took place at Gurgaon cyber hub and city club where Padukone and Khan were seen filming for the film.[22] The film was wrapped up after its last schedule being shot in Varanasi. Both Padukone and Khan shot on the ghats of Banaras under chilly conditions and also attracted a crowd on the ghats of Banaras.[23]

Promotion[edit]

The makers of the film released a video of day one on the sets of Piku which is called Piku Begins. The video has the cast speak about what viewers can expect from the film.[24] As a part of promotions, the makers have released onset pictures of the film's shooting where the main cast are all seen in character.[25] Bachchan's first look was revealed from the film that depicts his character of an old Bengali man with long hair and a big belly.[26] On 25 March 2015, as part of the promotion, Deepika revealed the poster of the film through her twitter handle.[27]

The director has directed films like Fanaa, Hum Tum, Mujhse Dosti Karoge! and Teri Meri Kahaani. For the actress it is her first as lead role in bollywood. Previously she had worked inSaraswatichandra a daily soap produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Kunal Kohli tweeted the poster of his film on Twitter on 13 October 2014. It was first time he revealed something about the film.[6] The first look of the film was also reaveled then.

The 155 second clip featured glimpses of the critically acclaimed director Kunal Kohli making his acting debut in bollywood with the daily soap actress Jenifer Winget. Personalities like Karan Johar, Rishi Kapoor, Gautam Singhania, Farhan Akhtar, Uday Chopra among many other tweeted about the movie and its trailer release on twitter.
