Apna Asmaan is a 2007 Hindi Drama movie directed by Kaushik Roy who has also written the script and dialogues.The film features Irrfan Khan,Shobana and Anupam Kher as main characters. Music for the film was composed by Lesle Lewis.[2][3]

Story[edit]

The film begins with Ravi (Khan) and Padmini (Shobhana) living as a happily married couple with a baby boy named Buddhi Raj (Dhruv Piyush Panjnani),who has a mental disorder.Padmini blames Ravi for the child's condition because she believes he dropped him when Buddhi was a young child. While Buddhi is good at drawing, his mother wants him to be good at mathematics since she was a gold medalist during her college days. Feeling helpless she starts taking Buddhi to temples, churches and priests frequently hoping for a miracle. During the same period Ravi meets a Research Scientist Dr Satya (Anupam Kher) who has recently discovered a brain booster drug and begins treating Buddhi with this medicine. As time goes by Buddhi's brain power improves and he becomes a very good mathematician. However Buddhi starts experiencing side-effects and he starts to forget his own parents during the process that creates a fresh trouble for them though his parents feel this a blessing for them. Buddhi receives media fame and becomes extremely popular on other hand. Now Buddhi starts to misbehave with his parents which they had never experienced. Buddhi's parents learns that the drug effects led to form him another personality "Aryabhatt". They are searching Dr. Sathya for the antidote. Meanwhile they find him in a mental asylum. Buddhi's parents pleads him for antidote which Sathya gives them finally. Now as Buddhi starts to attack his father, his mom knocks him out and injects with antidote. Now Buddhi is normal and Ravi & Padmini accepts his talent and film ends on a happy note.

Apna Asmaan grossed a total of $44,621 in India.[4]
Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India praised the performances by lead and rated it 3 out of 5,noting,"THIS one's a must for all parents who push their kids too hard and nurture stereotypical dreams for their young ones.Go, get a taste of meaningful movielore".[5] Rediff reviewed,"Director Kaushik Roy makes a good point in showing that present-day matter but does not tackle the subject of autism very well".[6] Piu Sur of Wogma praised it while commenting "It is a touching, simple film that communicates the personal pains and feelings of an autistic child’s parents.A brilliant film stands out for a perfect blend of all the technicalities of cinema".[7]
